The Tourism Superintendent is responsible for coordinating all tourism-related activities and functions for the City of Baytown. This includes engaging in marketing activities to promote the City as a destination for meetings, conferences, sporting events, and other tourism-related events and activities. This position is responsible for supporting the efforts of local destination venues and facilities, increasing existing business viability, increasing tourism and generally promoting interest in Baytown’s hotels and motels. This position requires the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment in decision-making. The Tourism Superintendent is responsible for monitoring budget expenditures for projects, programs, activities and materials.

Duties
Oversees relationships and partnerships with area businesses and hotels relative to Baytown’s hospitality industry. Communicates regularly with tourism stakeholders to collect, produce and market information in a timely manner in various publications and online. Responsible for overseeing external stakeholder events within the related industry. 
Oversees and manages multiple operational contracts as the primary liaison between the management company and internal stakeholders. 
Analyzes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other metrics; producing reports as requested. Monitors KPIs from contracted third party management companies to include in overall vision. 
Prepares and presents reports and other necessary correspondence. Prepares and monitors HOT Funds Budget. 
Supervises the daily operations of the Visitor Information Center to ensure excellent customer service and accurate information for visitors. Oversees the training and management of volunteers to provide a welcoming and knowledgeable experience for the visitor center.
Implements excellent front-line and back-office customer service for all customers and stakeholders.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or institution in Tourism, Marketing, Public Affairs or a related field.
Five years of professional level experience in Tourism, Marketing or a related field.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (ability to obtain a TX driver’s license within 90 days).
Demonstrated supervisory experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or licenses sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred:
Familiarity with legal use of hotel occupancy tax funds.
Texas Destination Marketing Certificate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires knowledge of computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Requires the ability to communicate clearly and establish effective working relationships with city officials, employees, business leaders, civic groups, and the general public. Work occasional nights and weekends. Must possess excellent writing and presentation skills and the ability to write articles for publication, as well as effectively present information to top management, City Council and the media.

Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work more than 40 hours a week. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
